“Ms. Osborne?” Mr. Talbot bellowed as he opened her door, “Have you got those pictures needed for the inside jacket?”
Abigail got up and was going to the door to talk to him, but all he did was stare her down with a frustrated look. She took a big breath and said, “I did Mr. Talbot, but the lighting was not right, so I had to order a re-shoot however, they are down in A&D now being re-touched.”
Mr. Talbot took a breath and said, “God!” and he huffed with a roll of his eyes. He said, “Damn it, I knew something like this was going to happen.” Mr. Talbot looked at Abigail and shook his head. In a softer voice and more understanding, he said, “It’s not your fault Ms. Osborne.”
Abigail bent her head down because she disappointed him and felt like crying, but she was not going to.
Mr. Talbot calmly said, “Look Ms. Osborne… uh… Abigail?” as he looked in her eyes for confirmation.
She smiled and just try to have them to me by 3:00 p.m. I have to get the jackets to production, like now.”
Abigail lowered her eyes and said, “Yes, Mr. Talbot, I’m going down myself to A&D to see why they are not processed yet, I have the proofs on my desk.”
“Whatever… just right away,” Mr. Talbot said as he was walking out. He started to close the door and stopped. Abigail was shocked when he came back in and closed the door. He walked a couple steps inside the room and said, “Listen, I’m sorry… for… Well, I know you are doing the best you can.”
Abigail looked back up to him with a half-smile. She grabbed the top of her desk and leaned back on with settling her bottom up against it. Abigail said, “I know Mr. Talbot…”
“John, if you wish Abigail,” he said interrupting her. He had a smile on his face and Abigail smiled. She took a big breath, bit her lip and nodded her head.
Abigail smiled wide and said, “I know John, I’m going down there now. With any luck, I will have them in a couple hours.”
He said, “3:00 is fine Abigail. I know those people can be picky,” and turned to the door.
Before he turned the handle, he looked at her and said, “If we make it out of here tonight with our lives… lets go and have a drink?”
Abigail stood up and said with a big smile, “Yes, and I will buy!”
He took a big breath and said with a smile, “We will see about that,” and he winked at her as he closed the door behind him.
